RELEX Group: 22 Years on the IT Market

On July 2, 2012, RELEX Group, one of the leading Russian software vendors, celebrates its 22nd birthday.

Since its inception in 1990, RELEX has made a great contribution into the development of Russian IT: the company developed and marketed many software products, became the first independent Russian DBMS vendor and was among the pioneers of the Russian IT outsourcing market during the late 1990s.

Today DBMS Linter developed by the RELEX team serves as the basic database server in many government projects: the system is widely used by the Russian Ministry of Defense and other security, defense and law enforcement agencies, by the state corporation “Rosatom”, in oil and gas production, automotive industry, accounting and analytical systems.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Southeast Asia, primarily Japan, has become one of the major markets for DBMS Linter. In less than 10 years the Russian DBMS became the de-facto standard for embedded systems produced by the world’s leading manufacturers, such as Sony, Kenwood etc. In 2011, over 30 million copies of Linter were sold at the world’s top high-tech market.

By tradition, RELEX Group has summarized its last year’s key activities and achievements by its anniversary:

• RELEX won the open contests held as part of the projects “Universal Electronic Card” and “Electronic Tchernozemie”. The RELEX team implemented several successful research, experimental and design projects under government contracts;
• RELEX won the Moscow Regional Government bidding for DBMS delivery and signed a government contract for delivery of the Linter BASTION license package to be used in projects of the Moscow Regional Ministry of Economy;
• RELEX got a certificate from Rospatent for registering DBMS Linter BASTION in the Russian State Computer Program Register;
• RELEX became a member of the Defense Industry Complex IT Council whose goal is to promote cooperation between state organs, military enterprises and software vendors;
• RELEX Group growth in 2011 — 2012 exceeded 20%.

The company’s achievements associated with our flagship product deserve special attention: the new secure version of DBMS Linter, Linter BASTION, has been certified by the Russian FSTEC as compliant with the Class 2 data security requirements and Level 2 of undeclared capabilities absence. Thus, the only DBMS completely developed in Russia has been certified by two major organs (the Russian Ministry of Defense and FSTEC) responsible for certifying software to be used in the military industry complex and other strategically important areas.

These victories belong first of all to the RELEX team: thanks to their high qualifications and hard work, the company achieves its goals, successfully develops software, improves the quality of its products and constantly enhances its scientific, technical and technological potential. Traditionally, RELEX pays special attention to training its future team members, IT students, stimulating their potential and desire for knowledge and experience. Each year, dozens of gifted students from the leading universities of the Tsentral Tchernozemny Region have their internship at RELEX. Last year was no exception. Moreover, this year RELEX has become a member of the Board of Trustees of the VSU Applied Mathematics Department whose goals are development of scientific research and innovation activities, modernization of educational programs, and assistance in putting the ideas of gifted students into practice.
