Relex Gives an Open Lecture as Part of the “Code Hour” Campaign
On December 5-10, 2016, the whole Russia took part in the “Code Hour” campaign devoted to programming, the universal means of communication.
The campaign was held for the third time, and this year not only the schools of Voronezh joined it. The Applied Mathematics and Mechanics Department of the Voronezh State University in cooperation with RELEX gave an open lecture «IT != coding» for freshmen and sophomore students. Lead developers shared their experience with the students and talked about the diversity of occupations in the IT sphere. Students and beginner programmers often think that working in IT means only coding and development. Konstantin Seleznyov, Lead Developer of RELEX and Assistant Professor at the Applied Mathematics and Mechanics Department, dispelled this myth and told them how many professions IT includes and how to make a successful career without being involved directly in programming.
«Self-fulfillment in the IT sphere is not always limited to coding. There exist many other opportunities to build a successful career after the graduation. Certainly, each field requires a specific skill set, but they all have one thing in common: to succeed in any of them and become a professional, one must work a lot. To do this, define your goals clearly and keep to your chosen path,» - Konstantin Seleznyov commented.
IT today is one of the fastest-growing and flourishing areas of work and economy. No wonder that IT departments are highly selective institutions: in 2015 less than one candidate in eight was successful. According to the Ministry of Communication, the shortage of IT professionals will be about 200 000 people till 2017.
